Trauma Therapy

What is Psychological Trauma? Psychological Trauma is damage to the mind that occurs as a result of a distressing event. Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming mount of stress that exceeds one's ability to cope or integrate the emotions involved in the experience.


Sometimes people tell us why can't you move out of this way of feeling or reacting if the event happened so long ago? Trauma defragments the brain and causes emotional and physical reactions when thoughts of traumatic events show up as flashback or when our senses pick up the trauma experience as happening in the moment. It is not the person faults, the brain is just stuck with a virus that will not be cleaned up unless is worked out in Therapy. CPT or my preference and easiest modality, EMDR. 


Trauma leaves the individual with a sense of feeling stuck, trapped, helpless. Uncomfortable Physical sensations, and emotional roller coaster that at times seemed to come from nowhere. Destructive and self sabotaging behaviors keep preventing the person from experiencing a fulfilling relationship or a connection to another human. 


Negative self beliefs and distrust in others, a sense of not being good enough no matter how hard you try to get ahead. EMDR therapy is an approach that focuses on understanding how a traumatic event impacts a person's mental, emotional, physical, behavioral and spiritual well being.

The purpose of trauma therapy is to offer skills and strategies to the individual that will assist in understanding, coping, processing memories and emotions associated with traumatic experiences. 

We will clean up the virus and rewire the brain integrating new positive beliefs and moving trauma into the memory bank instead of the reactive field.
